The Varsity Outdoor Club is a tribe of adventurous students who live and breathe human-powered fun. Hiking, climbing, kayaking, skiing, the odd mountain bike adventure – if it involves sweat, laughter, and Mother Nature, they’re in. Best of all? It’s totally free for UBC students. Me? I’m an outdoors nut – a bald hippy who hears a sparrow fart at dawn and bolts from the studio to the hills, grinning ear to ear. I adore how the outdoors can embolden the heart, recharge the spirit, and turn ordinary days into stories worth retelling.

When the VOC asked me to help, I jumped at the chance. (Payment? None. Except for pure joy!) I crafted a bold, fun visual identity and event promos that matched the club’s wild energy. Posters, announcements, and playful graphics turned into rallying cries for mischief in the mountains. Serious fun was had. And supporting a club that gets 3,000+ students outside every year – at zero cost – felt like the best kind of design adventure.
